"Broken Sally"

I am learning everyday that we should approach life humbly. This is the blog of a guy learning how to Love. Most of the posts will center on Love (Holiness). However some may speaking more generally to Christian living or life in general, which all boil down to love for me anyway. A Lot of what is said here, is said from the context of The Salvation Army to which i have commited my life. But being a "broken sally" my words are in no way offical. I am just a guy who wants the best for his church.

A Great Read

"Relational Holiness: Responding to the call of Love"

By: Thomas Jay Oord and Michael Lodahl

According to the authors the Theological distinctive of the holiness movement. (Biblical holiness)is in danger of extinction. This is no supprise to anyone.

What is exciting is their approach to the problem and their proposed solution.

First they argue that we need to articulate biblical holiness with a new relevant language and not just find new ways to explain hundred year baggage laden language.

Secend they seek to find a core notion of holiness amoung several competing notions. A core notion to which all the other notions contribute.

Their core notion turns out to be Love. And they articultae model of holiness they refer to as "adventure Holines"

The rest I will leave to you. It is only 140 pages and written to be very readable. And trade will soon be carring it for just 11 dollars.

The Strongest Power on Earth

The Following Jewel Was found in a devotional that was published in 1902. It is a collection of the writings of General William booth the co-founder of The Salvation Army. The Book is titled "The Warrior's Daily Portion: Being Selections from the writings of General Booth"

The Strongest power on earth is Love. Perhaps it is the strongest power in the universe. I should think it is the power that keepsall the inhabitants of the celestial World in their places and at their work. Anyway, it is the strongest thing in this world.

It was Love that made God create the beautifulglobeon which we live, with its mountains and oceans, and rivers and forests. It is true that the devil and sin have robbed it ofmuch of its loviness, and that many of us are shut out from participating in these enjoyments. But still, it is a marvellous piece of workmanship, and full of interest, if nothing else, that it is a representation of our heavenly home. OH! my Comrade, what will heaven be?

It was Love that brought Jesus Christ down from heaven to live and suffer for our sakes. Only think what a mighty force that must have been that took Him to the manger, the wilderness, Gethsemane's Garden, and the Cross. What a power that was that led Him to the grave, and then raised Him from the dead.

It is Love that makes the Holy Spirit seek after the souls of men. How filthy, howwicked, how ungratefulthey are; and yet how tenderly, how patiently, how perseveringly He seeks them! Is it not wonderful? He blesses them with many of the same earthly mercies as He does His own children, makes the same rain and sunshine fall on them, stands at the door of their hearts and knocks and pleads for entrance. It is Love that makes Him do it all

I often think that he should care as he does for the righteous, considering how imperfect and unworthy the good people are; but that he should care for the sinners, that He should pitty and long after the Backsliders, is one of the greatest wonders of the world- if not the greatest. I ask "What is the meaning of it all" The answer comes, " IT is Love that does it."

This Love comes, as I have Said, from the heart of the great Father of Love. Have you experienced its full power in your heart and life? Have you really and truly believed that He loved you, and gave Himself for you, and that he has purified and filled you with zeal for his glory and the salvation of men?

WHY LOVE?

William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army called Love the most powerful force. In the universe.

Theologian, Mildred Bangs Wynkoop said that in touching the concept of Love one would find themselves entangled in every other aspect of Christian faith and practise.

This morning my son said "I love you daddy"

The Apostle John said "God is Love".

I have had this blog for several months and while Iplayed around with. It a couple of times I couldn't think of a theme that would exite me enough to faithfully contribute to this little corner of cyber space.

Love is that theme the more I study love the more I try to practice the more I realize just how massive and amazing a "thing" it is.

Love... This is going to be a fun ride.
